How do I choose the right video production company?
The team at Empire Video Productions understands the stress of choosing the right video production or live streaming company. After all, you have been tasked with finding an organization that can both meet and exceed your companies' expectations. We can help you start the process of finding the "one" by asking the right questions and seeking the best information that in the end will help you reach your goal.
SHARE YOUR VISION AND SEE HOW THE COMPANY REACTS
You are often excited about the project you are undertaking. Sharing that vision is the first step into seeing how your potential video production company will work to create your next video event. HOWEVER, it is the reaction you should look for that will be the most telling: 1) Do they take an interest in your project by asking open ended questions, 2) Do they delve into the specifics of your project (your target audience, your production goal, why you are creating the video), 3) Do they ask about your timetable and expectation for when the project should be completed?
Companies who focus on "price first" may have their priorities in the wrong place. Before the talk of price comes up, see if the potential company shows a genuine interest in "what you are creating" before they start determining "how much" they want to charge.
DO YOUR RESEARCH - REVIEW THEIR WEBSITE & COMPARE THEIR PORTFOLIO TO YOUR CONCEPT
Some websites are a "chore" to read through - and we get it. Too much text, not enough substance, too much marketing speak. However, you can get an excellent feel for a company by how much time and effort they spend representing their brand online. A company's website should exude professionalism and quality.
Do they take the time to spell out the specific service they offer?
Do they specify who their target market or audience will be?
Do they provide sample videos of projects they have worked on in the past? (Keep in mind, many companies limit what they will allow production companies to showcase on their website)
Do they providing pricing or give you an indication of cost? Can you ask for an estimate?
ASK HOW YOUR PROJECT WILL BE MANAGED
You have a creative idea (or even a team of people) who want to bring your video production to life. However, you have reached out to a video production company because they are the ones who have the technical expertise to put the vision to life. Learning the production workflow and the personnel who will be behind the effort will go along way to trusting you hired the right people for the job.
Can they brainstorm ideas with you that will match your vision for the video or live broadcast?
Can they provide a professional script writer if one is needed?
Can they provide or assist with providing actors or have a casting company they can refer you to?
What type of equipment do they provide?
What about set locations, staffing numbers and cost? How does that figure into the project?
Is editing included and what is the revision policy?
Do they work with a marketing or PR agencies who can help get your video, brand and image in front of the right people?
GET AN ESTIMATE AND REVIEW IT TOGETHER
Price is not always the best indicator of quality. There are many Miami video production companies charging a range of prices for their video production services. A higher price doesn't always guarantee the best and the lowest cost isn't always the best value. We firmly believe there is a happy medium between the two. Any company you choose will be transparent in their pricing and explain how each "line item" will contribute to the overall vision you are trying to create.
COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY TO A GREAT RELATIONSHIP
We often use the analogy that producing a video is similar to buying a car. If you were to call the dealership right now and say "I want a car," they should respond with a round of follow-up questions: 1) what type of car do you want, 2) what is the car for, 3) new or used, 4) is gas mileage important, 5) do you want a sedan, family car or sports car, etc. Knowing the answers to these questions gives the dealer a good idea as to where to point you in the right direction.
We use this analogy because video is much the same way. Certain resources, specific equipment, the number of staff members all add to the value of a production. They may or may not be necessary based on your needs. You may not need a rear-view camera in your car, but it serves an important purpose. Likewise, you might not need that audio operator, but they serve an important purpose. This is where communcation will determine if you have chosen the right company. Good communicators are always asking questions, seeking answers and working to clarify situations. If you find a great communicator, you will 9 times out of 10 find a great video production company.
